Best Beauty Products of 2014 | Skin, Hair, Make Up

by - 06 January

I can't give you all the hyped products of 2014 just as much as the raved about high end products. What I can do is give you a bit of each in the perspective of a skincare obsessed make-up rebel who likes to dip her feet into something new.

To see them up close including swatches subscribe to my YouTube channel where I will be doing a video on this. I've been very experimental with make up, skincare and even haircare the past year. If I'm honest, especially more than ever since I started YouTube because I felt I needed to look my best for the camera. My findings have brought you all these lovely goodies which I found really hard to round down as there were so many. Here are the contenders that made it through.

Starting with the most groundbreaking for me personally. The hair. I've spent years trying to find products that will soften and moisturise without greasing my extremely dry hair. When I say try, I mean make-you-feel-thirsty-looking-at-it kind of dry. I couldn't go two days after a wash without my hair and scalp getting drier and drier.

Dove Hair Therapy: Style + Care Heat Protect Spray
Hairsprays are my worst enemy and looking for a scentless one is impossible - they don't exist! The brand new Dove Style + Care not only protects and adds that little bit of caring moisture but it also has a lightweight feel and smell to it. Hair curling sessions back on!

Boots Ingredients: Coconut & Almond Intensive Hair Mask Normal to Dry Hair
Considering how dry my hair gets, I would not recommend this to normal hair. This mask has been life-changing. I've achieved a softness I had only known from stroking my girl-friends' heads green with envy. I use this weekly, leave in for an hour and wash off.

Palmers Coconut Oil Formula Shining Hairdress Moisture Gro
For my dry ends any day or everyday. It's works as a quick fix for me, does what it says on the pot, adds that shine factor too. Not virgin coconut oil, it comes in a solid formula, almost like applying cream to your hair.

2014 has been an acne battle and a challenge for me to stop changing from one skincare routine to the next. Though you will have to wish me luck on the latter as I am still having trouble. What I can assure you is that these beauties aren't going anywhere.

Simple Spotless Rapid Action Spot Zapper
If you've been a subscriber on YouTube for some time you will know how I can't stop going on about this. Why resort to something like Origins when you can have something so simple zap your spots away overnight. I use this before bed when I feel a spot coming on and just before it can, it's gone, zapped. Hah!

Nivea Lip Butter Caramel Cream
This is my first Nivea product and I am sold. I've always been meh about them but I am soon becoming a convert. *Simple cries*
Nivea have done so well for themselves the past year, they've released a lip butter in a whole range of flavours but this is my personal fave because of the warm feeling it gives me on a nippy Monday morning.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel
This the most delicate face wash I have come across for sensitive skin. Clinique, eat your heart out. Though very underrated and not very advertised this product has be tough on my blemished but so gentle on my skin. What's more, 'Tested on imperfect-prone skin'! Love your humour Effaclar!

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish
Hate that scrubbed up dry feeling you get after a tough make-up removal session? Liz Earle's cleanse and polish makes the whole process feel more like a treatment than a torturous cleansing routine. I break down my make up with a micellar water and face wipes then go in with this and wipe off with a warm muslin cloth.

Some very exciting discoveries here.

Revlon Photo Ready Cream Blush (Coral Reef 300)
This products received a lot of criticism but how pigmented do you want a cream blush to be? I love to pat this on the apples of my cheeks to add a vibrant just-saw-my-crush flush and I love it, so long-lasting and easily controlled.

Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream (Rose Beige)
A 3 pigment corrector doing exactly that! What is everyone doing with those coloured concealer wheels cancelling out the red, dark etc when this is an all in one high coverage corrector. I use this sparingly on all my problem areas. Dark under eyes, redness and the odd spot and often forget about foundation.

Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Brick (Gold Bronze)
2014 was all about the glow contour. This is a gem of a product I bought on a whim and have since fallen in love, this even doubles up as eyeshadow. Swirling my brush around it gives my heart palpitations. This is also a dupe for the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick, I had to do a double take when I saw the pricier one on a fellow blogger's Instagram and instantly sent over a smug comment.

A lip loving lady, yes I am.

Seventeen Stay Pout (Rule Breaker)
This looks significantly like the Rimmel 107. It's a vampy plum colour and I can't stop wearing it. The line is called Stay pout, and rightly so. Though Matt, it has a moisturising feel and matt lipsticks like that are very hard to come by in the high street department.

Bourjois Rouge Edition (Brun Boheme 05)
Creamy, dreamy and oh so natural. Can't fault this natural looking lipstick ever since I gave up on trying to find a nude lipstick that won't make me look washed out.

Revlon ColourStay Ultimate Suede (Muse 005)
A matt that looks like make-up's answers to suede. Extremely vibrant pink lip.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet (Frambourjoise 02)
Product of the year! As lip lacquers go this has got my heart jumping. I love watching the creamy consistently slowly turning into a thin but heavily pigmented and non-drying matt. I can eat a burger with this without getting messy. What's more, it has the stubborn staying power of a tree in a storm.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush (Viva Violet 300)
A warm purple lip balm. This is the gentle purple you don't have to be brave for.

Aaand that is it, for now. I can't wait to see what 2015 has got to offer in the beauty department. Give this blog a follow if you love this kind of thing. Let me know your 2014 faves and stay with me for a video review.
